Infection Prevention:  
Bringing Quality and Safety to New Heights

Program Overview and Objectives

The West Virginia Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) invites you to attend our annual two-day conference.  This program is designed to provide a forum for contemporary methods of Infection Prevention and Control in various health care settings.  Issues that currently challenge Infection Preventionists (IPs) and others in healthcare may be presented in a variety of formats including lecture, group discusion, and case studies.  Valuable opportunities to network with colleagues will be available to conference participants.  Exhibitors showcasing the latest products available to enhance infection control programs will be on site.  This program is available to IPs, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals interested in Infection Prevention and Control, infectious disease, patient safety, as well as quality and performance improvement.

By attending this conference, participants should be able to:

•    Describe the role of the IP and Facility leadership in complying with regulatory agencies related to Infection Prevention

•    Discuss the role of the IP in preventing infections during healthcare construction and renovation

•    Understand critical processes in central sterile and operating room that can have major impact on infection prevention 

•    Discuss OSHA regulations, preventing injuries and exposures and the inspection/complaint process

•    Discuss the legality of workplace violence and learn ways to recognize indicators of potential violence in effort to prevent and mitigate violence in your facility

•    Describe the role of the IP in working with EVS and the importance of building relationships and auditing, as well as the role of UV light in preventing HAIs

•    Understand key infectious agents found in the healthcare setting

•    Discuss unusual environmental phenomena and their impact on healthcare

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the West Virginia Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiolgoy (APIC-WV) with support from the West Virginia Hospital Association.

Cancellations and substitutions policy:

Cancellations will be refunded, minus a processing fee of $5 if received on or before September 6th, 2019.  If you cannot attend, you may elect to send a substitute from your organization.  Registration will be accepted after September 15th (including on-site), but we cannot guarantee Thursday’s lunch to late registrants. 

Comfort zone:

Although every effort is made to have a comfortable temperature in the meeting rooms, we realize everyone’s comfort zone is different.  Therefore, please bring a sweater or light jacket in case the room is too cool.
